My own (slightly positive) thoughts on the whole ladyboy issue behind a

I know a lot of people have been bummed out by this, which is totally understandable, and I'm not trying to say that anyone's feelings are invalid. I know I've recently learned a lot about accepting my privilege and understanding that just because something doesn't bother me doesn't mean it isn't problematic.

However, saying that, I'm going to have to give the boys the benefit of the doubt here. The thing is, while I'm aware that the term 'ladyboy' is used as a pejorative, I know it is also by used by some Thai mtf individuals in the same way that homosexuals in America use the term 'faggot' to describe themselves, or as a term of affection/endearment. (I'm not necessarily saying this is right or wrong. Even as a woman in an 8-year relationship with another woman, I find it problematic that gays and lesbians are given free reign to describe things as "gay" - as in, a synonym for shitty - simply because we are gay. But that is another issue, and I don't want this to post to be about wank.)

Getting back to my original point, as far as we can see, Ladyboy is a friend and ally to the band. Isn't it entirely possible that it is a name that he has chosen for himself? I've seen a few Thai movies where boys refer to themselves or each other as ladyboys without any negative connotation. MCR has, in the past, always been pretty darn good about issues surrounding sexism, racism, and homophobia. Now, if it turns out that they were just being assholes, or trying to be shocking, I have no problem with holding them accountable for their bs.

Also, if someone more learned about kathoey than I do, please let me know. I'm really, really not saying this to offend, and I'm more than happy to learn a new perspective.

ETA: I guess this is all a moot point since Gee said that the character was never supposed to be called/referred to as Ladyboy, so feel free to ignore...

Also, DUDE! My score on THNKS FR TH MMRS was 66,666. I am too amused at that to be annoyed with the fact that I only got 96% -- I got 100% on all the other FOB songs (on singing. on guitar I'm like, 98-99%) but look, the ending is tricky, and apparently all this time I've been singing HARMONY. WTF? I need to sing the melody. I lose.
