Leave me a comment saying "Resistance is Futile."

• I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can satisfy my curiosity

My questions, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] cmonkatiekatie

What's your favorite song to dance to?
"Can't Stop" by Maroon 5, "Pour Some Sugar on Me" by Def Leppard, "My Strongest Suit" from Aida. Really, most things from musicals are fun to dance to, particularly from things like Chicago and Cabaret. Also, generally speaking, anything by Cobra Starship just makes me want to move, specifically "Send My Love to the Dance Floor/Hey Mister DJ" and "Church of Hot Addiction." If I'm playing DDR, then Good Charlotte "I Just Wanna Live" or Smile.dk "Butterfly"

Do you have any pets? And if yes, will you tell me about them?
Yes I do!!! I'll do better than tell, I'll *show*
First we have my pet snake, Miyavi.
Photobucket
He's a Brazilian Rainbow Boa, about six feet long.
Photobucket
He gets his name from the fact that if you look at him under the right light, he shines purple, green, blue and pink. Like so:

Next is my dog, Maggie. We got her from the pound, so we're not sure what she is, but she looks like a doberman/lab/greyhound sort of mix. She's good at doing tricks. I'm particularly fond of her sneer:

She has a fondness for putting things in her mouth that don't belong there...

IDEK what?

And lastly, our kitty OEM.
Photobucket

She was found as a teeny tiny kitten outside my sister's home, and one of her eyes was swollen shut and crusty, so my brother-in-law named her One Eyed Monster (he's so clever *eye roll* and the acronym OEM stuck, somehow. Both eyes are fine, now:
Photobucket

She and the dog are really cute when they're not engaged in Battle Royal:
Photobucket

And she likes to go places she shouldn't. Like inside the snakes cage while we're holding him, or on top of the screen door:
Photobucket

What last made you laugh?
My animals. Our dog gets jealous of the cat, and tries to purr, but it just comes out as this really low grumble. Also, the most recent episode of "Castle." Because I love Mal.

What's your favorite kind of cookie?
This is tough! There's this bakery near where I grew up that makes two of the most amazing cookies that you can't get anywhere else, and don't even actually have names, and they only make seasonally. The one they make at Halloween and get so many orders they have to be rationed out. Sort of like an iced sugar cookie, but more better. The other are these tiny starburts coated in sugar that just melt in your mouth, but are only made in the spring. 'Course, snickerdoodles are always good, too.
But my favourite cookies, hand down, are my family's secret recipe. Which I shall now share with my flist, because seriously, amazing. They might look really simple, and they are, but once you taste them, you'll understand.
1/2 cup margarine
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
3 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons cream of tartar (in spice aisle)
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Sift all your dry ingredients together. Beat your margarine and shortening together, then beat in sugar, vanilla, and eggs. Slowly mix in the dry ingredients. It might get difficult towards the end. I usually end up using my hands to mix, but spray your hands with cooking spray, first. Then roll the dough out about 1/2 inch thick and use whatever shapes you want. Bake for 8-10 minutes at 375 degrees, but keep an eye on them so they don't get brown *at all* These cookies should not be crunchy. Then let cool before icing!
For the icing, mix half a cup with shortening with a smidge of water and add powdered/confectioner's sugar until taste and consistency are right. Really, it's simple. You don't want it too runny, so add more shortening or confectioner's sugar if you put in too much water.

Tell me about where you live!
Hah, where I live is so boring. I live in Dublin, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus. But since none of the suburbs are incorporated, technically we're still Columbus? I don't get it. Anyway, the population is largely Japanese, which is cool, because that's one of my areas of study. Also, they have lots of cool Irish pubs with amazing authentic food.
Columbus itself is the capital of Ohio, which means there's always a lot to do--tonnes of festivals, theatres, museums, etc.
I live in a two-story townhouse with my fiancée. Nearby there's an awesome dollar cinema, yummy Indonesian restaurant, Japanese bakery and bookstore...oh, and maybe my favourite place in town is The Book Loft. It's an old house in German Village that's been turned into a bookstore. It spans the width of a block, and has thirty-two rooms, each devoted to a different genre of books. And they're all discounted. http://www.bookloft.com/bltour.htm
Previously I've lived in Japan and New York, so Columbus can be sorta boring, but I like it well enough.

Yay, questions. :)

1) Tulips.
2) 18th Century France. Provided I got to be rich and live at court, that is. And not get beheaded during the revolution.
3) Sometimes. I go back and forth.
4) George Orwell, because he pays attention to both style and content, i.e. writes books that are both superbly constructed and very pleasant to read. His writing is the holy grail of how to write well for me. I think his 1984 is actually my favourite book, for those reasons.
5) No. :) Hmm... snakes, I think. I really don't like snakes.
