Okay, so my computer died, and all my stuff with it. I probably won't have access for over a month at least. Now, most of my fics can be recovered via gmail, but my BBB fic, the Gabilliam, cannot be. I didn't show it to anyone so far. And okay, it was only a few thousand words, but still. I'd hate to start it all over again. I'm thinking it shall just have to be worked on at a later point in time *shrug*
In the meantime, I have to decide what I *am* going to do for BBB. I'm working on finishing elf!Frank/Gerard (which is going nicely, but *slowly*), but I'd like to have a couple things going, so that at least one is finished for BBB. Then I can post the other(s) in the interim! So, thoughts?
Option A: Oiran!Spencer/Brendon fic. In which all the baby Panics know one another growing up in Japan (I think I've decided to set this in an alternate timeline because the original romance novel is so ridiculously inaccurate, and most of my stuff would either be anachronistic or just plain fucking wrong--so I'm going to stay as close as I can to cultural accuracy while compromising by having a vaguely steampunk-ish setting). Brendon's family are missionaries, Ryan's and Jon's are merchants, Spencer's work with some foreign government and they're actually spying on the Japanese lord of the area. Anyway, they other boys are sort of shitty to Brendon because they don't get on with missionaries, and Brendon is just weird, anyway. But Brendon wants to be friends with them so badly he can taste it.
Around the time they're 10-13 (haven't entirely worked it all out yet), there's a bunch of upheaval and basically outsiders (particularly merchants and missionaries) are being slaughtered. There is chaos, and in it, Spencer's father can't get him out safely. Instead, he takes him to a teahouse, where the madame is his lover, and gives her a large sum of money to keep Spencer safe and hidden. Which she does by taking him on as her servant, dressing him as a girl.
This is where it gets difficult (all of this is going to be handled in flashbacks and conversations w/Brendon, because the action begins when they're 18-ish), because I don't want Spencer to have gender issues, which is why I want him to be pretty close to puberty when he goes into hiding. I am interested in someday writing transgender Spencer, but not in this fic. He's a guy, and he is comfortable with his gender identity. He's also just very comfortable with many aspects of a woman's gender role--it isn't sexual for him, just an extension of who he is. I really want to explore how much more comfortable Japanese men are with their feminine aspects, anyway. *shrug*
So anyway, there's a lot of jealously towards him from the other girls, who think that Spencer is a she, and who think she's being groomed to become the next tayuu (basically the head oiran, who gets the best clients, particularly the lord of the area). Except the madame absolutely refuses to let any men have her, no matter how much they offer. So Spencer just sits in the back and keeps his eyes on the ground so no one notices their hue, and occasionally responds to the men in his really sassy repartee that just makes them want him *more*.
Then, Brendon, who is now in the military of some sort, is being sent back over to do some undercover work, since he has a native knowledge of the language and culture. Things have calmed down over the past 6-8 years, and he's posing as a merchant, so no one will expect anything of him. Something happened to Spencer's father before he could go back for him--either he's dead, in a coma, or somehow mentally incapacitated, haven't decided--but now Ryan has access to money and wants to find Spencer, and he begs Brendon (with whom he has become...friendly acquaintances over the years) to keep his eye out.
So one night, Brendon's associate, a Japanese man eager to make a connection with a wealthy foreigner, takes him to the pleasure district to further entice him into a deal, and Brendon's just sort of horrified with it. Then they get to Spencer's stall, and there are men there, calling out for him, begging to have a chance with them, and Spencer calls out something scathing and Brendon is caught. There's *something* about that girl. He goes over and says something in English because he's pretending not to know Japanese, of course, asking about that striking girl in the back. And before the translator can even say anything, Spencer looks up, startled, and their eyes meet and it clicks for Brendon pretty instantly.
And then they have this sort of awesome, slow romance, but all the while, things are getting more dangerous for both of them...
That's all I can give away from that one.
Option B:
Ryan Ross is a fucking super hero, okay? Well, he can read people's minds, and he has to say, people are pretty fucking horrible. (What Ryan doesn't know is that he can only read people's thoughts when they have bad intentions--useful in fighting crime, but otherwise depressing) What Ryan wants more than *anything* is to be invited to join Pete Wentz's crime-fighting team. Like, he's been extended an invitation by the Chemical Brothers, but they accept *everyone* Even the dude who can only transform into single-celled organisms, and the chick whose hair can grow really quickly. Something about the elder brother's (haven't come up with super hero names for everyone yet) platform of equality and co-operation between those with powers and those without.
Pete Wentz, however, is super cool. For one thing, he totally gave away his secret identity. That was ballsy (and maybe seriously upset his publicity agent/tactician/keeper Patrick Stump, but whatever). And he's super exclusive. And Ryan is so much cooler than stupid Captain Amazing that Pete recently invited to join his super elite squad. The guy has stupid hair and his costume sucks, and so what if he's an empath who absorbs everyone else's powers and call use them at will? Ryan has *better hair*. And his costume has rose embroidery.
So Ryan starts his own team. Mostly it's just his best friends. But makes them all matching costumes. Only they refuse to wear them. Brent mostly wears lots of black leather, which is ridiculous since they live in LAS VEGAS, but Brent's power is that he can control the weather, so. *shrug* Spencer refuses to wear a costume at *all* but at least he'll wear the mask to conceal his ~identity. Spencer has telekinesis, and he's pretty badass with it. He can even make Ryan *fly*. Secretly, though, Spencer's a little sad that he can't fly *himself* because that would be awesome. Jon, if he ever actually shows up when there's a call, wears Ryan's costume with dignity. The green and yellow roses are a great colour with his eyes. The thing is, they call Jon, and then they page Jon, and then Ryan uses his brain powers to shout his name across the miles. And Jon can *teleport*, okay? He could be there in a second. Only usually he's distracted. He always shows up when it's life or death, though.
Even with Jon's powers, they're basically limited to Vegas and the West Coast of the United States, but that's okay. There's plenty of evil there. Their little outfit is starting to get some nice local attention for their heroics. Who cares about Captain Amazing who can bend space and time and who also has super speed and flies faster than a jet plane. He. Is. A. Tool. In a stupid costume.
Captain Amazing is not a tool. Brendon didn't even pick the name. Pete had called him that--Brendon thought jokingly--and the press had taken to it in a flash. And the costume...*sigh*. Okay, look, his mom is many cool things, and super proud of her son, but she is no seamstress. Still, Brendon can't bear to part with the outfit she made him. No matter if it's lime green and orange, and there are tropical flowers and pianos and musical notes. He tells himself it's really cool that his parents accept the gay thing so easily, even if they seem to think he's way more flamboyant than he actually is.
Brendon was doing a quarter abroad Europe when he discovered his powers, and then Pete had taken him under his wing. Brendon took about a year off school, hanging out in Chicago training and flying around the world fighting crime, before going home to Vegas to go back to school. But it's super cool. He's got all these gadgets Patrick and Cassadee and Andy created, including a special phone and watch that will alert him when Pete or one of the other guys needs his assistance. But now. Now Captain Amazing is all set to go out on his own and fight crime by himself! (He sorta wants to find a sidekick, or something, cause it's awfully lonely without the Clandestine Crew). Except he gets home to find that there's already this local crew there.
One night, Don't!Panic and Captain Amazing show up at the same crime and Ryan and Spence are all pissed as shit, because Captain Amazing is a TOOL, and they think he's trying to take over, but Brendon's just so fucking excited, because maybe they'll ask him to join!!! Ryan says some shitty things, though, and Brendon's spent a lot of time around Pete Wentz, so his automatic defence isn't very nice, either. Sufficed to say, their first meeting doesn't go that well.
Meanwhile, irl, Brendon starts back at school. He runs into them around campus--Jon seems to seriously be in every class *ever*, and Spencer's always in the library or cafeteria at the same time, and Ryan's the ta in one of his classes, and Brent is in the university band. He starts hanging out with them, and it's all cool because even if he doesn't have super hero friends, these guys are pretty damn awesome. And it isn't even awkward when he gets a call on his special phone or when his watch beeps--he starts to try to think of some lame excuse to sneak out, but they all suddenly have somewhere to be, too! Perfect timing.
Except Brendon isn't *stupid* He catches on pretty quickly, because there are *four* of them, and Ryan Ross' style is pretty distinctive, and the way Spencer likes to stand, with his hips cocked, arms crossed, looks remarkably like the pose Piercing Sapphire (shut up, Ryan picked the name, okay?) adopts whenever Captain Amazing shows up on the scene.
Only he doesn't want to call them on it! Because they're his friends! And they don't seem to realise what's going on. So he starts backing off as Captain Amazing. He stays invisible and just watches to make sure they're safe, and as they start getting into bigger and bigger shit, he helps without letting them know it. And Ryan's getting all cocky, but Spencer knows something is up...
Again, don't want to spoil it. That one is either going to be Spencer/Brendon or Ryan/Spencer/Brendon OT3. I considered GSF, but I wasn't really feeling it. *shrug*
So, cast your ballot...
