I'm excited that it's getting so close; there are so many fics that sound really promising. I finished art for the second fic I claimed, and went ahead and claimed the last one. That means art should be opening up for double claiming sometime today. Now, it's sort of last minute, given that art is due at the end of this week, but I'd encourage anyone who does art or mixes to go check out the options.
The BBB mods are going to need pinch hitters, particularly for fics where one or both of their bonus material-makers have dropped out. If we get to double-claiming, that will hopefully fix some of the problem. Of course you can always just sign up to be a pinch-hitter, but there you'll have less of a choice over which fics you can work with, while now art is sort of free for the picking, and there are still quite a few fics who've only been picked for one or two mixes. So, yeah. Go forth. Create!
redorchids put it much better than me, talking about how everyone deserves something for their efforts. I totally agree, but more than that, BBB has seen a definite decline in the number of fics this year from last year. This could be because of the two waves (I hope it is), but even if it is, I think part of keeping people coming back, or encouraging new authors to participate in the future, is to make the fest as exciting as possible.
As both an author and an artist (let's not talk about the skill or lack thereof I possess in either area), I know it takes a lot more time and effort to create a fic--particularly one of the length required for BBB, and in a specific timespan. The requirements for art allow for all sorts of creations, from the more traditional drawing/painting, to photoshoped pictures, to handmade crafts, and more. Most art of the scale here can be made in a single afternoon. Mixes, if one has a large enough musical library, can take an hour or two. Plus you get to read a fic way ahead of everyone else.
So, please, if you are artistically inclined, or enjoy sharing the music you love with others, go pick a fic now, or sign up as a pinch-hitter in the next couple days!
