Okay, for this I can't pick just one, but again, my two share basic and defining similarities. I'd say my overall favourite tv show would be Remington Steele. Of course there's the subject matter--strong female lead and the dashing, mysterious stranger sweeping in and turning her life upsidedown, the two of them solving mysteries together and sharing sizzling sexual tension. Laura is still my favourite female character in a television show ever, and though a lot of the show is dated (since it was made in the early 80s), her character remains an excellent role model even now. She never compromised, which was awesome. I have a thing for detectives, especially PIs, and the plots were (with a few exceptions) always interesting. I loved Remington's secretive past that slowly unfolded over the seasons. And the romance between Laura and Remington...ah. So much love--look at my icon--so delicate and sweet and OTP. I love that Remington always treated Laura with such respect, and as an equal, struggling with his need to protect her and the realisation that she didn't need or want his protection...and that maybe he needed her to be the strong one sometimes. &them;
Now, I grew up with RS, and I own it on DVD, and it is probably the thing I've watched most often over the course of my life, but my favourite currently running tv show, and the one I watch with most frequency now, is Psych. Oh look, PIs with a secret twist! Hm. This one took me by surprise, since I hated it so much when I was first exposed to it. Like I had an extremely negative reaction and avoided watching more for over a year, and then bam! Saw the first episode and I was hooked. I literally watch at least one episode *everyday*, have bought two seasons on DVD even though the whole thing is free on view it now on Netflix, I squee even though I've seen the episodes like, ten times each now. I love Gus and Shawn's friendship so *fucking* much. It reminds me so much of my friendship with my BFF. I love that Shawn is so smart and so stupid at the same time, and that he makes Gus feel important, and even though Shawn's an ass, he never does the shitty stuff you *expect* him to do. You expect him to cockblock Gus, but he actually *helps* him get the girls he wants. You expect him to rub his successes in Lassy's face, but he gives Lassy credit, or goes out of his way to make Lassy (and the Chief) think it was Lassy who solved crimes. IDK, I love his character ridiculous amounts, and he isn't even my favourite on the show. Lassy is. Anyway, I love that it pulls off the dramedy thing so well, because it's a difficult balance to achieve and to do well. I don't even mind the Shawn/Jules (though I don't really see it that much--Jules has so much more in common with Gus! and come one people, Shawn/Lassy OTP!)
But, yes. Love. Close runners-up: Supernatural, House, Firefly, The X-Files, and Bones.
