For the first time, I'm feeling shitty about being part of bandom. Usually this fandom just makes me really happy, even when everything else is sucky. And, okay, when Panic broke up, I was sad, but bandom still made me happy. It's just...I guess it seemed a lot more inclusive than other fandoms I've been in before.
When I started to realise there were BNFs, that was a bit disappointing, but I guess it can't be avoided. But just this...blatant elitist crap going on just makes my skin crawl. It makes me not want to read stuff by certain people--people whose stuff I generally like, but who are pissing me off so fucking much.
And it isn't that they've done anything to me, specifically, because while I'd like to be involved, yeah, I've never tried/explicitly said so to anyone, so whatever. I'll do my own thing. They've excluded others, though, and I just find it offensive that someone in a fandom can decide who is or isn't worthy of participating in things. Ugh, ugh, ugh.
Also, after reading some of the stuff involved, I am seriously less than impressed. Which isn't to suggest that I think my stuff is worthy, but I am a pretty good judge of others' writing, even if my own sucks, and I know what's good and what isn't. Does that mean that I think the people who wrote less-than-stellar stuff should be excluded? No. I think it means other people should be included.
What's the worst that can happen? You get a lot more fics out of it, and I mean, you can tell in the first couple lines whether a writer is any good or not, so it isn't like you're wasting a lot of time reading stuff that sucks, and then everyone is happy.
