I totally agree with everything Patrick said in his little rant about St. Patrick's Day. So I guess it hardly matters that, thanks to my son, I was a day late in baking my Irish Carbomb cupcakes, and now I'm settling in with Boondock Saints II: All Saint's Day.
Before the movie there was a preview for The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, and I was just struck, once again, with all the very strong feels I have about that movie. Going into it with such high expectations, and knowing it was the last work of Heath Ledger, it was a let down, to be sure. I try to rationalise that a lot of the problems I have with the film might have been fixed if Heath Ledger hadn't died. They could only use the other actors inside the Imaginarium, and a lot of my issues are with things that aren't tied up/contradictory/don't make sense in the real world. So, yeah. I still like to watch it, and I'm especially bowled over by Colin Farrell's performance. Everyone goes on about Johnny Depp, who I'll grant you bears the closest resemblance physically. But Colin's performance is like a goddamn revelation. He BECAME Heath Ledger for that role--the mannerisms, the gate, his fucking voice--even though he doesn't look as much like him in the face, the rest of it put together make him look overwhelmingly like Heath. There are so many times I watch it and sort of forget that it *isn't* Heath. IDK. People talk down on Colin because some of his choices in roles, or because he's the bad boy and a drunk, or whatever, but I enjoy the hell out of his acting, and I really admire who he is as a person, and I love having him as a GLBT ally. Now I want to watch that.
