Fantastical Packages and Black Cards
Feb. 1st, 2011 09:33 amSo, I should not have worried. Muse is amazing, and got me the package I wanted, and I'm super-stoked. I'd actually resigned myself to not getting the Fantastical Package, and I was actually okay with that (trying to be grown up), so I was very pleasantly surprised to see the confirmation page for it when I got home! I'm slightly worried because even though I got a confirmation email and the page from the purchase, my order status now says "Fulfillment error," which makes me wonder if they accidentally sold more than they had available? But I find that highly unlikely when Muse said she checked out within 5 minutes of the sale opening, and FBR said it took 23 minutes for them to sell out. So, yeah, I should be good, but I'm still nervous. Muse was all apologetic because she accidentally got a large in the t-shirt and didn't want to risk going back and losing out altogether, but dude, I so don't care. It'll be oversized. I can sleep in it. Whatevs.
Meanwhile, I finally got around to listening to a lot of the Black Cards stuff, and I am so, so fucking excited for it and for the concert (I need to listen to some of the other bands playing before then, too). Like, I loved the demos they put out ages ago, and I loved "Club Called Heaven," but then I wasn't too crazy about "Baby Blackout" (though I like the "damn I'm a headcase, doc gave me a new face, even my problems got problems" -- mostly I feel like Bebe's voice is very much her own, even though she's singing Pete's lyrics unlike with Patrick, who even when I heard his voice I imagined Pete singing them, but that bit, I feel like it's him singing through her and I love it. Another one is in DJaMF when she sings "it's never my fault when I make a mistake") and I downloaded the other two without ever listening to them. OMG, what was I thinking???
"Dominos" is easily my favourite of them all, so fucking catchy, but "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Fame," wow, so fun and Bebe's voice is really sexy. I go back and forth with the lyrics Pete's written for Black Cards--some feel really masculine, and others very feminine, and mostly they feel genderless, but DJaMF feels very aggressively feminine, and I *love* it. Especially lines like "nurse me like a drink" and "I want to be used and left empty" and even with lyrics like "now I'm gettin' paid (or laid? maybe?), plus a bj, ala John Wayne gonna sleep all day" just, idk, still sound right in Bebe's voice. Like, I'm all about women being able to use male vocabulary (I'm really not articulating myself very well here, but for example, I like to say "suck my cock" which is a horrible example from some people's perspective, I suppose, but whatev, and Bebe talking about getting a BJ, just, I don't know, it's hot. It's her sexuality, and even though Pete wrote the lyrics, it feels like her, owning it.)
Anyway, I was curious because I think I might have missed one of the songs at some point. The ones I have are
1. Baby Blackout
2. Club Called Heaven
3. Curtain Call (who knew Pete could sound sexy and not motts-y? Not me!)
4. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Fame
5. Dominos
Are there any others?
Also, anyone else on going to the My Chem Chicago or Cleveland dates, or the Travie/Black Cards Cleveland show?
